Closing Ceremony of English Language Course for Primary Teachers (Phase 1) is held in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Education Office 13, Naypyitaw this afternoon.
Union Minister for Education, Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, Deputy Minister, Dr. Zaw Myint, Directors-General, Rectors, Deputy Directors-General, Pro-Rectors, Directors and officials, and English teachers from the Department of Higher Education, the Department of Teacher Education, and the Department of Basic Education attended online.
Firstly, the Union Minister stated that in accordance with the guidance of the Head of State, English language courses for primary school teachers across Myanmar would be conducted. It was reported that in this English Language Course (Phase 1), eight senior professors were able to nurture English language teacher leaders at Phase 1. She added that four modules: ‘Developing Communicative Skills’ to improve the Speaking Skill of English language teachers, ‘Classroom Language’ to ensure proficiency in English used in the classroom, ‘Communicative Grammar’ to master English grammar, and ‘Familiarising teachers with contents’ were taught to ensure English language proficiency of teachers.
The English Language Teacher Leaders Training Course (Phase 2) will also be conducted at district and township levels. The teaching methods will be similar to Phase 1. In Phase 2, an Entry Behavior Test (pre-test) and a Terminal Behavior Test (post-test) will be administered. Phase 3, the main course, which is the English Language Course for primary teachers, will be taught to primary teachers 360 hours in townships where universities and degree colleges are located. Therefore, she strongly believed that the English language proficiency of primary teachers will improve.
Then, Deputy Minister, Dr. Zaw Myint, discussed and provided detailed instructions on the teaching processes.
The English Language Course for primary teachers is being conducted in three phases. The National Level (Phase 1) Training Course for English Language Teacher Leaders was conducted online by eight senior professors for English language teacher leaders from universities and Education Degree Colleges for two weeks from January 12 to January 23.
In this training, a total of 553 participants attended the online course daily from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This comprised 323 English language teachers, ranging from Assistant Lecturers to Professors, from universities and degree colleges under the Department of Higher Education; 36 English language professors and associate professors from the Department of Teacher Education; and 194 English language teachers from the Department of Basic Education.
