Union Education Minister Dr Chaw Chaw Sein Inspects Universities, Education Degree College and Basic Education Schools in Taunggyi and Basic Education Schools in Kalaw

The Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein, accompanied by Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, Deputy Minister Dr Zaw Myint, State Ministers and the authorities concerned, inspected the Education Degree College established at the former University of Computer Studies (Taunggyi) this morning to assess preparations for its upgrade to university level.

 

During the inspection, the Pro-Rector of the University of Computer Studies (Taunggyi) presented information on the university’s land area, the capacity of its academic buildings, and other details regarding the institution.

 

Afterwards, the Union Minister, the Shan State Chief Minister and members of the delegation discussed the renovation of the main building and lecture halls of the University of Computer Studies (Taunggyi) that require refurbishment. They also inspected the proposed site for the construction of the university’s main building, the university football stadium and running track, as well as the site designated for the expansion of student dormitories. The visit also included the Chemistry and Biochemistry Research Laboratory and the Physics Research Laboratory at Taunggyi University Research Center, where students were observed conducting practical research activities. The delegation also inspected the recreation centre and the indoor sports hall within the university campus.

 

The Union Minister later met with the principal, instructors and trainees at Taunggyi Education Degree College. During the meeting, she stated that the college will be upgraded to a university and preparations must be made for five Education Degree Colleges to be upgraded to university level. In this regard, both physical infrastructure such as buildings and academic preparations must be systematically arranged. She also emphasized that instructors should coordinate in developing their curricula and that such curriculum development should be carried out in cooperation with Yangon University of Education and Sagaing University of Education.

 

The Union Minister also met with students at No. (1) Basic Education High School in Taunggyi and No. (1) Basic Education High Schools for Industry, Agriculture and Livestock Breeding in Aye Tharyar, where she delivered words of encouragement.

 

On the previous afternoon, the Union Minister, together with the Deputy Minister, State Ministers and the authorities concerned, inspected the construction of classroom buildings and the football field spectator stand at No. (1) Basic Education High School in Kalaw, Shan State (South). She also toured the school compound and cordially met with the headmistress and teachers.
